Absolutely, there's an authentic Japanese family owned restaurant about 3 miles from me. One of the few remaining, I always buy from there.

While this would be ideal, it's not always feasible. If you are shopping on a tight budget you aren't going to spend up to 25% or more extra at a independently owned store rather than going to a chain or big box store. Now, restaurants are usually pretty a different story.

One might argue that it's a worthy sacrifice to keep one's hard-earned money within the community.

Not if you are barely making ends meet and have to choose between buying retail or not buying at all.

There are plenty of things we don't need to buy at all. Prioritization is key.

Clothes aren't one of those things. Niether are groceries. Both have a high percentage mark down in bulk or chain stores.
