American prison uniform? You do know that every county as their own prison uniform, each state has their own and depending on the federal facility they vary too.

I looked it up and the color of the jump suit follow a color code system (in this case, khaki is low-risk). I couldn't find anything that it changed from county to county but it does mention that superintendents have the power to choose whatever color they want for the inmates (mainly as a way to demean them). But, I presume that in general, most prisons in America follow the color code system.

Well honestly it makes perfect sense, a person living among criminals for 16 years would require a will of steel not to turn criminal themselves.
