McDonald's doesn't exactly have high standards.
It's a starter job, they don't owe you food or a living wage because you'll either move on or screw up before long.
Local places, especially high-end ones, have to be more discriminate with employees, and those good employees are more likely to stick around when there's more to gain.
You're telling me that working hard to gain experiance and advancement pays off? Looks like free market works again! Be careful, if you keep taking control of your life like that you might end up being a conservative.
Advancement is ideal, but if everyone advanced, no one would fill those minimum wage positions. The people who have to fill those jobs deserve to be happy too.
I couldnt agree more. The nice restaurant, with the compassionate owner, needs it's garbage taken out as well. It doesnt have to be advancement, just find a place of employment that treats you the way you think you deserve. In theory, shouldn't the good employers end up with the good employees?
Yes, but when the bad employers are able to establish as many places as they do, there's going to be a lot of people having to work there, sometimes with little chance of advancement or an alternative job. Of course, we don't need every business to provide food for its employees. But we need every business to treat its employees like people.
You should know, what you are describing is a LOT more difficult than simply caring about your employees. Sounds like you're destined to own your own business so that you can walk the walk.
Not at all. Creating a work enviroment where your people feel like they're being treated well is extremely dificult though. People have a way of resenting their employers over time.
Well, okay, I get the minimum wage thing, McDonalds is for most people a starting job and they have so many employees to handle that even if the CEO decided to cut his pay in half and give the rest to the employees, it wouldn't help them at all because everyone would get like one cent. BUT, they throw away food that's older than 15 minutes yet they "can't afford" to feed their employees? Sheesh.
