Because they put up a force barrier when in battle so that the force attacks don't work, like this one.

I assume it's kinda like why they don't just always throw them out of each others hands all the time.

Because you have to continuously hold the button down with your hand to make it even stay on.

Some have a failsafe trigger and some have a toggle.

my question is why dont they switch them off until they need to strike, they cant be blocked and theres no stopping a light saber if it turns on in your face
