In Australia we have at least one robot per family to fend off wild animal attacks, though they're generally a fair bit smaller than the Iron Giant.

My fav part of this movie is in the beginning where Hogarth made his blanket tent to watch the movie. He hears a noise upstairs and goes to check, but the movie gets to the good part so he rushes down the stairs. If you pay attention, you'll see that Hogarth slips on the last step and falls right on his ass before leaping over his fort.
