I call bullshit about those 4 miles. The tree clearly ripped the radiator in half, it can't take that long to lose all colant and have your engine jam.
It may not have damaged the radiator at all most newer cars have crumple points around the radiator that allows it to be pushed back a good amount without damage. When I wrecked (or rather was hit by a moron running a red light) it tore the whole front bumper and grill off my mazda 6 and swung the radiator out like a screen door but did very little damage other than popping off a hose. On another point depending on the temperature outside and how hard she was running the car it could take miles before any damage would be done to the engine, I have driven cars with all manners of mechanical failures and have successfully gotten a car home from three miles out with a broken belt which meant I had no alternator, power steering or water pump and it was massively overheating.
