A human being is expected to understand the consequences of an action, has superior resources, and communication skills. Animals have scents and other markers to define territory, but cannot write a letter, or discuss an issue. People cheer when an "underdog" animal stops a human who sought to harm it, the common thread to these ideas is that people are expected to use means other than violence, and know that violence is wrong.

The counter is that violence isn't always wrong. It's just that it's applied far too liberally for it to be enjoyable.

You make a good point that I could have worded that better. In an ultimate sense violence is wrong- in practical reality it is a tool. Too often as you say it is applied liberally, and while in some cases we have developed no better tool, in most violence is used by those who lack the mental capacity or fortitude for a better solution. As a matter of expedience it sometimes is used as a "lesser of" against an immediate threat, and as humans we have it in our nature to enjoy violence to some degree. Thank you for pointing out that flaw.
