They very much do mind but they are not allowed to say it or act like it. Most places you're not allowed to tell customers that you're closing, you have to just wait for them to leave.
i work re coating tables and fixing wood around cheesecake factory so i go to a new store ever 2 days (no food sadly) and i come in right before closing time and the absolute fear that the staff has is kinda funny they all look at me and my group with a look of omfg.
I'm not sure I understand your comment. When I worked in retail, customers would come in even just one minute before closing time. I wish I were exaggerating, but that's sadly not the case. We would lock the entrance door at closing time, but people would sneak in through the exit door when another customer would leave. I think the only time customers didn't try this nonsense was during World Cup games.
No one would care if it was just closing at closing time. What they care about is staying an hour and a half after closing time because a customer is inconsiderate to other people. If it's a quick get in get out, or a to-go order most employees dont mind, but when its sit down and stay or shop for a full cart of groceries while everyone waits on you that's inconsiderate.
Even if it's "your job," that doesn't change the fact that it sucks to miss family dinners, plans with friends, etc because your shift was supposed to end at 6, but it's now 8.
Yup or missing your bus/train home, not being able to pick your kids up on time, or being late/ missing night classes. Just because it is their job doesn't mean its a persons only responsibility.
Did you read one of my previous comments? People would enter through the exit door when customers (who were already in the store before closing time) would open that exit door in order to leave.
its not closing time unless its closing time if you are closing the door before closing time you arent doing your job right. You work in a service industry as much as it sucks that it happens your whole job the reason you get paid is to provide a service. I work as a contractor and i get a bunch of a hole people who do things that piss me off but it is my job to deal with it and provide my service if i want to get paid I need to suck it up you should do the same.
I think i misread your comment are you saying that the customers who were there before closing time entered through the exit doors. Cause if so ignore the first bit even though it is true.
@trashmanrevenge I'm going to try to break it down as simply as I can. If, after this, you're still confused, someone else can help. 1) Let's assume closing time is 6pm. 2) Usually, there are still customers in the store at 6pm because they were in the checkout line a bit beforehand and no business is going to turn them away just because it's technically 6pm (let's assume there are 10 customers in various lines who lined up anywhere between 5:45 and 5:59pm). 3) Someone tries to ENTER the store from outside at 6:01pm and realizes the ENTRANCE is locked (we'll call this person Alex). 4) A customer who was already IN the store is finished with his/her transaction and is leaving the store through the EXIT door (a door which can not be opened from the outside). 5) Alex (remember that she/he is outside past 6pm) holds open the EXIT door and has now gained access to the store's interior and proceeds to try to begin shopping. 6) That used to happen AT LEAST once a month.
I dont agree with your whole point i know people can be dicks but deal with it there are a lot of industries that have to deal with it. Going back to the main topic of the post yeah its a dick move but its allowed and im sure your boss disagrees because he gets more money. If people enter the store at 6:01 when it closes at 6 then their bad but otherwise if it ranges from 5:55-5:59 then its perfectly allowed and is part of the job.
Oh, that's what you meant by "at that time". Yes it's definitely the customer's fault if they somehow get in after closing time.
