It also very much depends on where you live. A hovel in the bad part of town goes for more than that where I live.

But they are available. The founders of the United states crossed oceans on wooden ships, covered continents on covered wagons and fought wars against people who attemted to control them so that they could have a better quality of life. And today something like living in a quality home or in a safe neighborhood "isn't possible" because you'd have to drive 60 min to get there? Sounds like a lack of both perspective and appreciation to me.

More like several hours, but nice condescension. I live in Las Vegas, where cost of living is pretty astronomical no matter where in the valley you go. A crappy 2 bedroom apartment cost 800+ a month. Same goes for most large cities. As for having to travel you have to consider the cost of gas, not to mention the wear and tear on a vehicle. If I were to take a bus it would be two hours minimum. But yes, of course, I don't live in a covered wagon searching for a free parcel of land or in a ship bound for genicide, so of course I'm totally totally unappreciative and short sited.
