Mark Hamill > every other Joker (even though he just gave his voice). To be honest, I don't get all the hate on Leto. Yes, his Joker wasn't very good, but honestly he's a well established actor, we know he can act pretty damn well, but from what I've heard they shot enough footage with him for a whole movie and then they just put a tiny fraction of it in Suicide Squad. I obviously haven't seen the cut clips so I can't tell if they were actually good, but the point I'm trying to make here is that no matter how good you are, if you're given a garbage script and your character is terribly designed (I'm talking about the shiny teeth and tattoos etc.), there's not much you can do.

If Hamill counts then I think he is WITHOUT QUESTION the best. But for appearance, i like Nicholson

True dat, the gangster boss Joker was a really interesting take on the character, visually and otherwise.

Generally nobody likes working with method actors tho (James Franco and I think Shia Labeouf are others)
