Maybe not cleaning toilets due to sanitary reasons and due to the use of chemicals but maybe cleaning the lunch rooms (trash and sweeping floors) or other tasks around the school.

The high school I went to sometimes made kids scrape the gum off the bottoms of desks, bleachers, poles, the ground

Student taught in third grade. After a kid was caught vandalizing the bathroom, the school made her help clean the bathrooms after school. It was literally the best punishment ever, because after cleaning pieces of ripped up toilet paper off the floor, she literally said "why would people do this?" I DONT KNOW, KID. WHY DID YOU CARVE YOUR NAME INTO THE STALL AND WIPE BOOGERS IN IT?!
