Agreed. I once had a young bat that had somehow nested inside a closed deck umbrella. It was a month before it would go outside, then 3 months before it found a new place to stay.
Oh, and it's got an anklebiter and a GTFO my lawn on it's side as well.
It's generational, too. Once, when I was about fourteen, a mother duck was hit by a car and her almost-grown ducklings were left behind. They were big enough to run from most predators, but didn't quiiite get the hang of foraging for themselves yet, so I threw out scraps and cat food for them now and then till they migrated, and I'd "quack" loudly to let them know.
I went back for my high school reunion, over ten years later (mallards live five to ten years). Just for fun, I grabbed some duck-friendly scraps, went out to the backyard, and quacked. I got about two dozen ducks.
