I'd say that if that person's life is so bad that a person who hears bad life stories all the time cries, then that person has the right to cry.

I'm inclined to agree with iccarus - but a lot does depend upon the context of the psychiatrist/client relationship

Psychiatrists go through years of training to prevent exactly this type of situation. They aren't supposed to be emotionally effected by their patients. It's detrimental both to their own health and their ability to objectively help their patients.

i agree cassy, but if the patient has a history of not opening up, then this would be a logical course to build trust
