I once yelled at my dad at the age of thirteen and told him "You are a freackin A-hole" his response was" You won't say it" then said "Well you don't want me cussing" and we both laughed and he and I figured out that it wasn't the words, but the meaning.
A character on the show has a little girl and she was making her pay the Swear Jar every time she cursed (a lot) so Lucifer taught the little girl some loophole swear words. (motherflunker etc.) Eventually she and her mother learn that it's not the words themselves that are bad but the feelings they induce in others.
“Holy shit," I breathed. "Hellhounds."
"Harry," Michael said sternly. "You know I hate it when you swear."
"You're right. Sorry. Holy shit," I breathed, "heckhounds.”
Lupin: "Shit! I have to watch my damn mouth around you little bastards!"
*students gasp in horror and cover ears*
Lupin: "I mean, SHOOT! I gotta watch my damn mouth around you little bastards!"
