This is not a problem "crossing his arms" it's a problem "having one person on his right that is significantly shorter than him and a person on the left who is closer to his height".
If he had someone on each side who was relatively the same height as him, like the second picture, his arms would cross more naturally (comfortably) and a little further away from his body and he would not be in such an awkward/uncomfortable pose.

no dude, that's not a problem in crossing arms. elbows have joints they can move up and down without the person having to make weird faces
