The left gonadal/testicular vein drains into the left renal vein before draining to the inferior vena cava (which is the last stop before it gets back to the heart). The right gonadal vein, on the other hand, drains directly into the IVC. Higher venous pressure from having to make that extra detour causes more blood to flow through the left testicular vein, so the testicle compensates by hanging lower (so it doesn't get too hot -- needs to pull away from core body heat -- too hot = sterility and testicular atrophy)."
