There is a shortage of skilled trade workers. Everyone is convinced they need to go to a university and get fancy degrees. Sadly many people think a plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc are a lower class.
I was just about to comment this. In order for an economy to function, we need workers from several different groups. By equalizing pay rates, we can ensure that there are enough people to fill the different needs of the population
I agree, there's many different paths and trade school isn't right for everyone just as University isn't right for everyone. Its silly to tell everyone to stop going to University and go to trade school instead, just as its still to tell everyone to only be a doctor or lawyer. The world needs all kinds of occupations with differently educated people to fill those positions.
Equalize pay? Then I'll be a painter instead of engineer. I may be a terrible artist, but if it pays the same as busting my ass I'll prefer that route.
I graduated highschool with a class size of 250. Over half were going to a 4 year school for generals or fine arts. Keep in mind most of these people also owned a vehicle. Say 200 but only a dozen or so payed out of their own pocket from busting ass during the summer. 90's babies in general have been brainwashed into thinking intelligence can get you out of hard work. When in reality success often requires both. To be good at school is to be book smart, and the need for such people is limited
