My cat gets that way when we play fetch. He doesn't actually huff and puff, but he lays down and refuses to move

It's actually the sign of a genetic heart defect. I had a cat that was about 2 yrs old when she fell off our dresser and died. The vet said it's common in North American Short Hair cats. Cats aren't supposed to pant.

yes this is the exact same thing that happened to my beloved cat three weeks ago. we got home to find her panting and unresponsive on the bed. she tried to stand up and collapsed and we had to have her put down as the vet said she was in a lot of pain. she was a North American short hair tabby. i miss her dearly.
