Me: " hey boss, as you can tell from this phone call my voice is almost gone and my throat hurts insanely bad and since I have a very short shift I'm calling in sick "
Boss: " what the fuck ? You're calling in for such a long shift just because your throat hurts a little bit ? I expect better from you "
I worked at BabiesRus and got a call that my 3 year old had a siezure, never had one before, at daycare and hit her head on a wooden toybox. I told my store manager I had to leave because she had to go to the hospital and no joke she said "You are really putting me in a bind, can't you finish you (7 more hour) shift?" I'm a single mom, there was no one else to take her or be there with her.
I had a coworker whos son died while on shift and they said if she left she was fired ( despite her being the person whos been there the longest, even longer than any managers)
Yeah but they went and offered her 2 bereavement days on days she wasn't scheduled anyway ( which honestly fuck that ) so she couldn't say they didn't help her
Even if the 2 days were on days she was working that's kinda more of a dick move than no days IMO. It's like "yeah we know your son died, 2 days should be plenty"... instead of ""we really can't afford to lose you right now, you are important".
