Hitler didn't do any of those things until he discredited the press, seized power and declared himself a dictator. If Donald were a dictator do you think he'd still do all those things? I certainly don't.
How is it stupid? We are talking about a guy who demanded a loyalty pledge from an FBI director, fires people over perceived slights, and thinks he gets to control and direct the entire department of justice. I'm just saying he has similar tendencies, and given the chance, he'd probably prefer to act like a dictator since when he was president of his own company that's basically how he rolled. I think he thinks being president of the US is like being president of a really large company. It's not, not even close.
Actually, he does get to control and direct the department of justice, they report to him, that's why he get's to hire and fire the Director of the FBI, that Attorney General, the Director of the CIA. They all report to the Executive Branch of the government, of which he is the head.
It's pretty much high school level civics, did you pass that class? He has repeated over and over that he has no intention of interfering in the Mueller investigation, why would he? They're doing a great job at exposing the corruption in that department and how horribly badly they've botched everything so far, so why would he have any intention of getting in their way now?
No, he controls hiring and firing, he doesn't get to shut down whatever the hell he wants or investigate whoever the hell he wants. Think about it... if he could do that he wouldn't be getting all pissy about the idea of Obama spying on him (he didn't). This is EXACTLY why separation of powers are a thing.
Anyway, the DOJ answers to the Congress and the Supreme Court, not the President himself. Like I said, he only has control over hiring/firing, and in the case of special prosecutors the president hasn't been legally able to do it since Grant and the Whiskey conspiracy. Once it was ruled that what Nixon did was illegal it didn't matter, that's why it doesn't get near enough coverage when we are talking about precedents for this shit.
