The mitochondria may be the powerhouse of the cell, but the plasma membrane is what controls and regulates what goes in and out of the cell. (I still found this funny but I just felt like throwing in some random biology knowledge)

To be accurate tho the membrane doesn't control the transport of molecules, the concentration gradient does and the Transport Proteins are the ones that control the large molecules. So they're more like the wardens I guess
