To be fair, she sent a letter to him telling of her plan but it was either intercepted or he left before it arrived ( I don't remember )
So she was supposed to wake up and escape her crypt to go join him in his exile but shit didn't go as planned

From what I remember, Friar John was unable to get outside the city because of sicknesses outside the walls.

Friar John sent a fellow Friar to deliver the message. This other Friar got caught in an isolation blockade made to stop sickness from spreading.
