I'm not Christian but I find it sad that people ridicule Jesus like this, even if it is "just a joke". I have a great sense of humor, I'm not a prude, and I sure as hell am probably gonna get downvoted for this, but Jesus is regarded as the Savior of Mankind and God in some religions, a beloved Prophet in another, and even a respected figure in others - it hurts that people make fun of him so easily. I think we should afford a little more respect to religious figures, even if we don't believe in or agree with them. Anyways, downvote me if you like, but that's just my opinion. Everyone's got one.

There needs to be more people like you in the world, guest.
It was part of a larger teaching moment to his disciples. This post just makes it seem random. And yes, guest, well said.

It's meant as a lesson: The fig tree should have been bearing fruit, but it wasn't. A fruit tree that doesn't bear fruit isn't doing its job. So if you aren't 'producing fruit' by bettering yourself or the world in some way, then you're not doing what you should, and God will go find someone that is.

Fig season is usually between June and September, and in tropical climates they can bear fruit year round. Not sure what climate Israel has, as I've never been there, but I imagine it's pretty mellow since it borders the Mediterranean.
Basically, if the tree had leaves, it would have had fruit. Unfortunately, the Bible has a lot of translation errors, and a lot can get lost in translation, especially in 'New Age' versions. King James version is probably the best to go off of, but it still has small errors as well.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Judaism is an Eastern theology, which means it's rooted in symbolism, whereas Western Theology has always been more literal. And so it can be hard for Westerners to understand all the hidden meanings within parables.
