Let's look at this, shall we?
There are many different options as to why vampires are fine in moonlight and not in sunlight, but I believe it Has to do with the more concentrated solar radiation that moon tends to absorb a lot of.
However it could also have to do with the most simple factor, light intensity. Daylight is a hell of a lot stronger than moonlight.
Nerd doesn't begin until I start talkin' about how that second option would effect modern-day vampires.
Which starts now.
Modern-dayay vaempires wpuld be absolutely devastated by the invention of electric lighting. With it came hard lights hundreds of times stronger than candles and torches. But it gets worse, humanity created flashlights that equal to exceed the luminosity of the sun IF you were to focus all sunlight that falls to earth at any given point.
Not just daylight, all sunlight earth sees.
Traditionally, vampires can still take ~3 seconds to reel back out of the sun. With those flashlights, than you can buy at like 30 bucks each, a vampire wouldn't even get to see the light that killed him before he'd dust.
And it'd be the explanation with less premises, thus more probable. I like that: Occam's razor in a discussion about vampires. The cartoon leaves the question however, if vampires dying from sunlight might actually be nocebo effect.
That would be one hell of a placebo. Perhaps their natural reactions to those kinds of things are also heightened alongside the senses.
That would explain why it can fluctuate enough to either kill them dead or leave them completely unaware of any danger.

Voodoo can kill people, it's been reported, so the power of a placebo/nocebo effect can potentially be extreme.
Additionaly in bram stokers original story: Dracula vampires didn't die in the sunlight, they merely lost their power based on how strong the sun was, it was said that withought moonlight he would be even stronger
