I'm a teacher in a predominantly Hispanic area and I can say it's not a white people thing it's a new age parents thing. Like WTF Is wrong with naming your kid Susan or Michael or Isabella or Ebony why do I have students named Nathaly (pronounced Natalie) and La-a (pronounced Ladasha...not kidding)

Nathaly (or Nathalie or Natalie) is a pretty traditional name where I come from, it's even a bit old-fashioned but still widely used^^ I've never heard Ebony though but I like it. I second your point about colors having nothing to do with it : I used to know a black guy named Moses-Galileo and my sis who works in a daycare knew a white girl called Blinera, which sounds like a pokemon name. (We also have XVIIth century names making a comeback, Leandrau is a big hit)

Yeah I was so surprised when I heard this for the first time that I almost let out a laugh, and I always feel bad for the guy. Pretty sure his life in middle school was not made easier by this name.

But that's a Biblical name. It's not "made up". Ebony is traditionally considered an African American name (for obvious reasons) but I think it's pretty. But La-a? I still cant.

Moses alone, I'll give it to you, but when you add Galileo, a man who was burnt by catholic authorities, it gets weird. And the more I read Ebony, the more I like it^^
