All of Disney's movies have a much more grotesque origin, fairytales were originally brutal and violent. Most of Disney's tales are based off the Grim's Brothers
That's actually not entirely true. She was about 10 when they met but John Smith didn't impregnate her (not sure about the rape) and he stated that it was more of a friendship than anything romantic. She was kidnapped when she was 17 after John smith left and was most likely raped while imprisoned but was held in Henricus, which is in Virginia, USA. While she was captured, she met and married John Rolfe who was 11 years older and they had a kid together. Then they moved to England
But the stuff about being baptised as rebecca and dying at 21 or 22 are true.
It's also speculated that when she met John Smith, she was already married to a person from her tribe and had given birth.

She wasn't raped. She was anywhere between 10-14 y/o when they met. After she was captured after a while she decided to stay and as you rightly said was baptised, married Rolfe, had a son together and died in England (on a visit to King James) most likely from pneumonia or TB. She's buried in Kent where she died as they were leaving to go home. The most historically accurate film out there regarding this is "The New World".
So do you expect DISNEY to make a movie similar to the actual story? Stop complaining about a movie that was made 20 years ago. It’s supposed to be a light hearted, kid friendly movie.
I was about to respond with something along the lines of "thats a bit of an exaggeration" when I saw the 20 years part. Then I checked the release date. Now I feel old.
