Anything is possible wether you believe in yourself or not. Nothing is impossible through the scientific method- there's only shades of probability. It's highly improbable an elephant will come out of the microwave if you put an egg in, but not impossible. It's highly improbable that I will go to the moon in my life. It would be somewhat foolish to quit my job and leave my life to move to Florida in hopes of being closer to having a shot at it. But if someone started exercising, eating right, and studying for a degree in sciences or physics- even if they don't become an astronaut they'll be better off most likely. Life is about managing risks against rewards, probabilities, and goals. If you don't believe it's possible, you won't try. Where the cost of failure is still greater success than not trying at all, we must believe.
