You can still use your phone while on a call, it probably just went to homescreen

It has sensors, if you are on a call and you pick it up the screen goes black.

Your sensors must be off. Last three phones I've had, had sensors that lit the screen up when moved while on a call.

I mean when you put it up to your ear it turns the screen off. When you look at it normally it turns them back on.

Sometimes mine does that. Other times, the screen random lights up.

Once, my screen wouldn't light up at all and I couldn't end any calls but other then that it should turn off when you put it up to your ear.

My wife's phone keeps doing that. She will get a call, and then the screen goes dark and won't light back up.

Hmmm, I think my problem just fixed itself so I don't really know how to help you, sorry. But it is really annoying.
