Humans in general killed them, not just baby boomers. You guys contributed too. But it's fine now, polar bears and brown bears are interbreeding and are currently creating a new species so it's all good.
Why? Why would anyone be against the thing that built literally every society? The activity that can teach survival, bring man closer to nature, and feed a family?

I think it's mostly trophy hunting they don't like
Because people can't seem to understand that hunters really aren't sociopaths who enjoy killing as an action, they enjoy hunting and they (usually) respect what they hunt. Everything from how they do it to the kill itself to how they treat the kill afterwards is done with respect to the hunt. Not just drive a lifted redneck pickup truck into the woods with an M2 Browning on the hood firing away into the trees.
My first hunt I was twelve years old. We were out for hours, and we're getting ready to pack up for the night when a young buck sprints out 200 meters east of us. My dad tool 3 shots and missed 3 times.
He told me to take a shot, and I did. The deer dropped so fast I thought I missed. We gutted him on site, I took a bite from his heart, and I packed him the whole way on my back. We got a whole of steaks and jerky out of him, and I'm thankful for that. I'm also glad that my bullet pierced his heart, it's frowned upon to let any animal suffer.
I helped cut it open to take out the organs, and so that my first kill will always be with my spirit, I ate a part of it's soul to carry with me forever.
Traditionally speaking, I should do something similar if I ever kill a man, though I'd mark myself with his blood rather consume his flesh. My people have taboos against cannibalism. Look up the wendigo for more information.
It was warm, but my bullet punched through it, so I don't think it would've been beating even if it wasn't already dead for a while.
It was tough. Chewing it would've been difficult, so I just bit off what I could and swallowed.
Wouldn't do the man heart either. You be more likely to get a dease. Hunting is also needed. Deer would over populate and starve. I do hate the dipshits that fail to track what they shot.
