Now listen up here you little rapscallion, those little whippersnappers think they can do whatever they wish and it's high time the council came down on that young generation. Back in my day, we just sat inside and watched the telly all day! Absolutely no way we could get in trouble. The council never bothered us, no sirree.
Fuck those people. If some kid is brave enough to set up a stand or go door to door selling something like girl scout cookies, you freaking buy something. It is a better life lesson to teach them than to fine them and beat them down.
Teach them what? That the law can bend down for emotions? The kid will get over it soon, it's not like she's going to jail, her parents probably explained it to her in a way that she would understand.
In NZ, the law genuinely doesn't apply to kids under 10, as most of them don't really know the consequences of what they're doing, so there's no mens rea
There must have been a different way to have handled the situation. They could have told her (and her parents) that they couldn't sell there, and help them pick a spot to sell it somewhere else.
