I would agree, but that isn't the only option. She could have been less stupid and taken vitamin supplements. Besides, you don't know if she was vegan for moral reasons. She could have been vegan because of a health problem - maybe SHE would have died.
Either way it is a sad story that makes me feel very upset, but you can't just assume everything.
Just checked out the full story and its crazier then it looks here.
If she'd have taken vitamin supliments the baby would have been fine, this is blind fanaticism almost.
When told by a doctor at the 9 month check up that the baby wasn't well and should go to hospital. They refused and treated the poor thing with cabbage poultices and washed it with clay and earth instead of giving it a bath..... What the fuck is wrong with people?

Yeah, there does come a point where when you're told there's a problem and you're given a solution that you just throw out the window and make up your own to that you're just considered stubborn. Vegan or not, give your baby what they need to survive and when they're old enough to make the choice to become a vegan or not, they'll make the choice. But until then, they should be going with what's right.
I don't think being vegan is stupid. But the reasons some people do it are illogical. We are part of this food chain, just like any other living organism. We eat things, other things eat us. What I don't agree on is humans fishing out the ocean or causing the polar ice caps to melt. We have farmed vegetables, cattles, chickens, pigs. We fish. And nothing will disrupt the way organism exist on this world. Its a waste of time.
i'm not going to spread any kind of "awareness." there's nothing wrong with veganism. this is simply the parents not being smart about their choice to be vegans. it's not a big case against vegans that everyone should know about. it's a case against two individual vegans who were stupid enough not to educate themselves on how to properly sustain a baby on a vegan diet. i know several vegans/vegetarians who breast fed their children or raised their children on a vegan/vegetarian diet and they all turned out fine.
