It was people. Both systems are just theories, tools, farts in the wind. People are the mechanism through which ideals are executed. Of the two however, communism by its nature requires a massive and strong centralized government. That centralization and the level of integration to daily life required lend themselves to abuse of a massive scale quite easily. Of the two capitalism never said it would give control to the masses or abolish inequity. Capitalism says it will reward innovation and hard jwork with comfort and freedom. Of course in practice both systems get perverted and don’t work true to as advertised.

Communism isn’t the cause for the wage gap but it is the reason Venezuela is currently in tatters

Is it? Not to split hairs, but Venezuela is socialist.
