Depends. Most people are too old to start training to be workd class drivers by the time they get their drivers license. If you just want to be a race car driver, do club racing, track days, or regional racing- as long as you are still able to drive a car you aren’t too old. A little age tends to help temper us, and usually means the money to afford what is a very expensive endeavor. As far as being competitive I know guys who stayed at the top of their classes well into retirement. If you don’t happen to be a savant at driving- next best bet is to do races which are won more off the track. Things where points strategy and car set up are king. There’s also road rally’s- where being an efficient, wise, and knowledgeable driver takes precident over reflex and motor skill. So you still have a shot. If racing is your passion there’s always an outlet.

Then you’re too old. You weren’t kidding when you said “almost.” It only took you 3 hours to become too old.

In my 60s, I'd rather retire (be able to not HAVE to,work for pay) a year earlier than have a car that costs approximately one year of the money I live on.
