It’s awkward sometimes. You either have to hold your wallet in one hand and do everything with the other, or you have to set your wallet on the counter which you may not want to do certain places; and if you have cash etc. you may not want everyone there to see it. I am pretty adept with most payment machines and try to get done and out of the way for the next customer quickly. So while I’m doing the card with one hand, I’m gathering my items with the other so that when the transaction finishes I can just remove my card and be out of the way without fiddling.
Don't your cashier do everything for you...
In here, you just have to give out money/card and the cashier will do everything then just hand you the bags that are full of your stuffs along with the charge/card
It's a little different from place to place, at least in Minnesota they're trying to push chip cards to everyone and do without swiping so sometimes you have to insert the card and put in your PIN and sign or sometimes the place doesn't accept chips so you have to swipe your card, but there are other places that you just hand the card to the cashier like you said and they'll swipe it for you and you just have to sign the receipt or on a touchscreen pad unless its a small transaction, then you don't have to sign
Out west it depends. Some places you swipe, some you insert for chip. More where I live have gone to the insert. @rosalinas- most places I’ve been on the US cashiers ditties vary. Most sit down restaurants and many stores (especially “higher end” ones have you give the card to the cashier- but not always. Gas stations, grocery and convenience stores, fast food places, and many shops have you do your own card (debit cards here require a PIN number so if you aren’t using credit the cashier needs you to put in your pin anyway) and for credit you require a signature and many places do that on the machine. So they just have you do it yourself. Many chain restaurants have started having little machines at the table you can order drinks or appetizers from, call your host, and even pay your bill as well. Most gas stations let you insert your card at the pump and pay without seeing an attendant. But it depends on the system the retailer has.
