Bees are great. They’re cute and helpful. This whole “if the bees die we all die” thing has been circulating and blown out of proportion a long time. You used to see the quote attributed to Einstein quite often until that was easily debunked. Many stories about the “death of bees” use figures like losses of 20~% each winter in managed hives. Scary. Except.... bees always die in the winter. The rates are “normal” below 30%. Mosquitos die in the winter too and those aren’t going anywhere. Ask why those hives were managed to begin? Because we know bees die in the winter so we repopulate them each year to help things. “But the crops!” Yes. Bees pollinate. But the largest and most vital food crops to survival are... grains. Essential foods like rice, corn, and wheat all pollinate with wind. Bees pollinate flowering plants like fruits. If all the bees died watermelons, apricots, even apples may become more rare. Bees are important but I’m not a fan of fear mongering.
Another thing... honey bees are an invasive species in America. They aren’t the only pollinators and they never were the only pollinators. They’ve become a part of the ecosystem, but the ecosystem can survive without them. Other pollinators will rise up to take their space.
I live near Paris in a big flat with a terrace. I'm lucky, but worked to afford it. I often get solitary honey bees visiting often. They are often tired so I gave one once this solution, sugar and water for energy. Daft bastard drowned. Maybe need more precise instructions. Felt really bad
The way it licked the honey was adorable
SAVE THE BEES!
