I did kind of the same thing when I accidentally hit a mail box (cigarette fell on my foot and I freaked for a second and slightly swerved.. it was enough to snap my front axle from hitting the curb and total the car while also absolutely obliterating the mailbox... but I told the owners what I was going to do since 1) I obviously couldn't drive away... and 2) they were outside and saw the whole freaking thing lol They were cool about it.
