Haha, well personally I love the rainbow. It was chosen because throughout history different colours would symbolise "hidden" groups of people who weren't straight, purple for example. Violet flowers used to be worn by lesbians wayyyyy back in ancient times and only lesbians knew this, so they knew who they could love and be with, all they had to do was look for the flower and secretly meet up. There's countless stories like this, what I love is the lgbtq community took everything in history that was once condemned and made it their flag.
Wow I didn't know that! Is that still a thing? Because I always thought how hard it must be for lesbians/gays to meet their soulmate/SO by coincidence and not via dating sites or in lgbt clubs.
Oh! Lol sorry, to be honest I'm not sure. I doubt there would be as many as homosexuality isn't as frowned upon as it used to be. I presume in cultures where there's still a strong stigma around it there would be but I don't know. I'll have to google that.
Okay so I googled a bit, and apparently signs are rainbow accessories in general (surprise), thumb rings (left thumb) or a double axe (as a pendant for example)
Gay people didn't rake the rainbow, straight people abandoned it. The rainbow and the arch and all that shit used to be everywhere and used by everything but then then it started becoming a symbol for lgbt and suddenly everyone got scared to use it because they might be associated with that and that was bad, apparently. Not our fault everyone else was afraid of the light magic.
But what I meant is - are there still some 'secret codes' today?
