Gunshots have a much smoother echo than a firework and are usually a lot louder.
Edit: also when you're at the point you can tell the difference between different guns you might have a little bias

I just meant in my part of town, you can tell. You're right. Gunshots are much more clearer and pop. Fireworks are more of a boom.
