· FIRST
While not explicitly known in origin, the practice is mostly seen in rural areas. There are a few known common reasons for it. The first is kinda obvious as said above more or less: hiring people like actors, comedians, or yes; strippers, can help lift the moods of the grieving. it can be a sign of wealth and prominence. Such displays can boost funeral attendance- seen as a sign of the importance of the deceased, and also show off the families wealth and prominence. Related to that, in rural areas a single stripper can cost weeks, months, or more a persons average income. This is not just a way to show off wealth, but in these lower income areas such frivolities are not common place. The relatively rare occurrence of a death legitimizes the expense on something people normally wouldn’t be able to spend on and would likely face judgment for. There are some other theories as well- and one politician told his family it came to him “in a dream,” but in a nutshell that’s it.

So strippers are a metaphor for the significance of a loss?
