In some ways it may even make MORE sense to have an iPhone when you are “poor.” It’s a small, portable device that bundles a digital camera, email, telephone, and internet in one item. Most tasks that can be performed from a laptop and are helpful, like bill pay, resume building, job seeking, etc. can be done on a phone, and many “poor” people don’t have home internet, a laptop, or even a desktop computer. A phone is easier to keep/hide/transport of you are transient, and many free or low cost helpful apps and capabilities are unlocked by having a phone, not to mention it can provide free entertainment like books, music, and games to pass time without spending money. iPhones are often available very cheap used, or bundled free/cheap with phone plans. They are also easy and cheap to repair because of the mass standard parts in the iPhone aftermarket. Lastly- having a cell phone is almost a must today for those seeking employment etc, and people do use cues like a phone to judge us.
