Parent: sticking a fork in an outlet will kill you.
Child: *does it anyway*

Parent: you can't do that, because I said so.
Child: *throws a fit, but doesn't die*
Parent: don't stick the fork in the outlet
Child: why?
Parent: *explains things through science*

Child: *dies*
Parent: not my fault, I explained the science
Parents have lives, secrets. Look- Liz asks her mom if she can do a thing. Mom says no. Liz asks why, mom says because it’s dangerous. Liz argues it isn’t. Mom explains it is. Liz says plenty of people have done it fine. Mom says that at liz’s age she did the same, and it didn’t go well. Liz tells her mom about how they are different people, it’s a different time and things have changed. Mom says no, she isn’t willing to take the risk. Liz get mad. It isn’t her moms risk to take. It’s her life! And that’s like, so unfair because her mom just said she had done the same thing herself, how can she tell Liz not to?! And around we go again. If Liz was going to trust mom, she would have already assumed mom had good reason. Mom will answer as many questions as she’s willing before deciding there is not a discussion, and she isn’t going to waste time and give Liz a place to argue or ask more questions. The discussion is over- “because I said so.”
