Perhaps. Or perhaps laws exist so that where people have different interpretations of good. What is good for some is seldom best for all, and what is good for all is seldom best for most. As humans we haven’t even defined what good is, let alone of it exists. The idea that the good do not need law, requires “the good” to share your values. I haven’t met a human yet who I would say I would base the entirety of the template for “good” on their decisions. So I say no to Plato on this one. Some would say it is good to preserve all life, others would say it is good to allow a person to decide if they want to live. Some would say it is good to protect people from their own vices, like unhealthy habits and foods, or wasting time; others would say it’s good to allow people freedom to live. Some say it is good to exist for society, others say to exist for self. Somewhere between is the law, built to allow each their own way while protecting others rights to theirs. Never perfect, but what is?
@internet@violence- I’ll always need you, no matter what anyone says. Sure we’ve had our rough spots, but you’ve gotten me through some hard times. Also- that was a quick reply. I’m glad to see we get high speed internet here!
@imrichbitch- I apologize. I understand that for people like yourself no though comes easily, and having others express any idea more complex than a few words that could be found in a Dora the Explorer script might be confusing and hurt your self esteem. I didn’t think of you before I posted, and I really should have. As you have pointed out, the internet exists by your rules for your gratification, and people like me who don’t cater to that have no place here. I hope you can forgive my impudence. Thoughts have been behind all the greatest tragedies in history. Maybe we should follow your lead and stop thinking. I mean heck, this is funsubstance, not some class room for nerds! If you get people pontificating on things, what would happen next, people posting quotes from Greek philosophers?! Thinking about something he said? Plato is rolling over in his grave I’m sure. No. You are right. We are merely to consume media, never think, never discuss.
I'll shank when I'm fully awake mkay
