Iphones can be deactivated remotly so you can never use them again if you steal them, even if you try reinstall them. Stealing apple hardware like iphones etc. Is dumb.. You can't use them. As soon as they get a connection, you're locked out for lifetime. Even with new account, reinstall etc..just dumb people steal apple iphones / ipad / ipods.. No one will buy them from you because everyone know that. Even if you would steal a brand new iphone (never opened) from a store.. It would get deactivated. Apple just needs the id and boom.. Locked.
I remember someone telling they could reactivate them?? You're making me doubt. Anyways where I used to live they would have destroyed it if they couldn't steal it.

there is / was a way, but you needed to put another dns server into your settings (=your phone needed to be unlocked to do that) & need to pay a high fee to hackers. some hackers had created a fake dns server which basicly bypassed the whole deactivation thing.. but you needed to pay monthly to use the server & it was buggy as hell.. and as soon as the dns server is down, you're iphone get locked. this method only worked before you get locked.. after this, you're basicly screwed. and as far i know this method don't works since 2-3 years anymore. it worked just a short period of time & was really buggy.
there are thiefes who steal iphones and then try to sell them as fast they can before they get locked.. so the customer can't do anything & stands suddenly before a locked iphone.. but if this happens, the thief is long gone.. so he don't cares. that's the reason why you should always test a iphone (with internet activated) before buying it from random strangers..

..because it could be stolen & as soon as you connect it to the internet / put your sim in it with internet ability..you get locked out of your iphone.
