Well.... that’s less an effect of capitalism and more an effect of exploitation. Much of Africa has been exploited by those abroad or by other native governments for labor, natural resources, land, and other things. Centuries of fighting off foreign and domestic wars have caused massive destruction and destabilization. Capitalism doesn’t force inhuman behavior, nor do other systems lack the mechanisms for it. If most communist regimes had gained and kept world power, it is unlikely that Africa would be much better off- arguabkynit would be worse depending on the regime. Let’s not forget that the Comunists were quite involved in Africa through much of the 20th century, with colonial and communist arms having been the main tools of war in Africa since the century broke. So it isn’t capitalism that is responsible in Africa, but greed and apathy above all else.
Yeah but ignoring capitalism which country has a higher gdp? I mean the U.S manages to have the highest gdps in the world. It also maintains the most state of art and expensive military in the world.
GDP doesn't necessarily matter, or at least for the majority of people. The US has a poverty rate of 13.5%, which accounts for 43.1 million people. This is unacceptable. A country with such a high GDP, with corporations with values approaching trillions, with one of the most expensive militaries in the world, shouldn't be having this problem.
13.5 percent of poverty the thing about capitalism though is a majority of those people probably are not working its more than just bad circumstances. You have to make plenty of bad decisions down the road in order to get into a state of poverty where you feel you cant bounce back. If someone is born with a handicap yeah thats bad and im pretty sure you can seek compensation but like i said a majority probably dont work or didnt work to get there because they didnt want to. You can always find work in every city you are in. Capitalism means you need to find something to do in order to survive. In does not allow lazy people to just float on buy. Someone who is going to school needs to get a degree in something that people need otherwise it wont do him any good.
Like who cant find a job at a fast food place. I know every fing taco bell ive been to has always been hiring and always needs workers and at least for me was willing to pay me at 16 8.50 an hour despite no work experience. I knew guys who owned an apartment and could actually afford to survive on that if they were careful with their spending. Even construction companies especially ones i work for always hire people for backbreaking labor which yeah it sucks but it pays dang good. Problem is people dont have priorities right they wanna buy expensive things they cant afford man. I know people who live in poverty but own brand new iphones.
The unemployment rate is at 3.9% and its been dropping. There are 6.3 million unemployed people. Poverty rates have not been dropping proportionally to the employment rate, and have been dropping very little altogether. I'd argue that not every town in the US has jobs, and given that one's degree, if one is able to shell out the money to get one, is only good for certain fields of work, your chances of getting a job that pays well is even lower.
bro if there are no jobs in your town move. like go somewhere else bet you money there is a grey hound nearby. Also like I said almost every town has construction a field im in and trust me when i say people complaining that there too much work for that shiz currently. My friend who is only 17 getting paid 20 dollars an hour to help out with concrete and he hella breaks his body but he at least gets by pretty dang well. If you have determination and will power you will get a job.
It costs money to move, to uproot yourself and abandon what friends and family you may have had. It costs money to move furniture, or even to try to sell it all off. It costs money to buy a new place to live, and you aren't always likely to find an affordable place. And even if you are employed, you may still not have enough to live, given the price of rent, food, and healthcare in areas. Especially if you are disabled or simply unable to work in hard labor jobs, or if these jobs are simply not paying what your 17 year old friend was able to swing, you end up stuck at the bottom.
The clash in philosophies here illustrates the problem. Capitalism isn’t about money. Money isn’t the intended effect, the desired goal is to increase the quality of life for all human beings. People think capitalism is a “results justify the means” philosophy which has the sole goal of personal wealth. It is a system by which people are encouraged to work hard, innovate, change the system. The numbers show us that unless 99% of the world are just so much more worthless and lazy than 1%, the system is broken. Instead of creating opportunity to change the system we have legislated it so that those with money have the easiest time keeping it. It the opposite, it should be ever harder to gain more money, to keep more money, because there should be plenty of competition and small business growth. We passed monopoly laws and then side stepped them with conglomerates and the like. People shouldn’t have to build a life around basic survival. That’s the drive behind civilization.
capitalism is an economic system that appeals to human nature. The nature of survival people work to survive so therefore the system does as you say cause innovation and creates jobs and a thriving society. The problem that stems with socialism and communism is it does not appeal to the majority of human nature. Communism as we all know failed due to people not wanting to work because everything is distributed more work does not equal more stuff it just means more distribution of your fruit that you labored for. The main problem with socialism is the fact that the government interferes with far too much. Notice how the minute the government interfered with college education by allowing massive loans that the prices to college rise drastically. Also notice how impossible it is to find full time jobs when the government makes it so employers MUST provide full benefits to anyone working 36+ hours? I also dont mind rich people having lots of money since most the time they have earned it
and they dont just horde it like some dragon. Bill gates has created more jobs and business growth with his company than any middle or lower class person and is entitled to that money that he earns regardless if we think they earn too much or not. Around 80 percent of all rich people are 1st generation and have worked hard to earn that money. If anything people should strive to be like them.
It does cost money to move but why is the majority of unemployment in large cities or areas? In fact the more sparsely populated rural areas have the smallest unemployment rate. Can you really not find a job anywhere in a large city? Is there no where hiring for even a small wage. City life is expensive but not impossible to survive. Also im pretty sure disabled people in this country at least receive benefits if they cant actually work.
American capitalism also provides the best opportunity for improving the quality of your own life. Thats why people from all over seek to become american citizens more than any other country.
It might have been like that at some point. And with the US's tight borders and strong military, it's certainly preferrable to be here if you are fleeing war, gangs, or your country's government. But wages are stagnant, the housing market is expensive, and it's hard to get any upwards mobility, especially if one is working minimum wage. Its not impossible, but the American dream for the majority of impoverished is nothing but a dream.
American capitalism exists to siphon money from the bottom to the top. Americans hold the majority of the worlds wealth, use the majority of the worlds resources, and rely on other countries to cheaply supply labor and materials. Within America the rich profit off of the poor, the government takes a large amount in fines and taxes from the people who have the least, while pardoning those with more from the burden. Ethical capitalism isn’t about entrenchment of wealth or disproportionate allocation. It is about rewarding productivity with increased rewards. In the quest to increase total production American capitalism is just as guilty as Soviet communism in putting the numbers before the people. American capitalism requires a “lower” class, we didn’t eliminate the things that labor laws were meant to protect, we exported them. We passed laws to allow the rich to get richer, not to allow fair competition and innovation. Capitalism hates stagnation, it is designed around doing better.
Gee if only one of those billion people could innovate something beyond welfare fraud and then they go could enjoy success and the contentment that comes from contributing to the world.
I dont see the correlation
