Always painful. Don’t fret. If it is meant to be it will be. If they are really that great you don’t need to be their current boyfriend, you want to be their last boyfriend. If it is not meant to be, or they aren’t really that special, you’ll find someone else, and then you’ll be the “bring my boyfriend” in someone else’s story- the cycle repeats. The thing about youth is: few people go the distance. Some do. That’s great. Most don’t. Between changing schools up to HS, going away to college or a job, getting a job out of college, making a career- people will move around a lot. People will be discovering who they are and changing a lot. The person you love in high school will probably be a very different person in 10-20 years. As will you. So hang in. Priorities change. People come and go. Enjoy what comes along for what it is and build yourself up so when you and “they” are established you can have something that lasts and the means to enjoy it with less worry.
