I mean there are animals at the bottom of the ocean that don't use sunlight... so they're not dependent on sunlight but if by "without the sun" you mean the post super nova gas that created all of our solar system then yeah.

do you think these animals could develope without the sun? i mean.. science based we humans think that the sun was involved in developement of life itself (starting the process to build dna, heat the planet so it's not icecold and stuff, developement of single cell organisms etc.), so i think without the sun there would not even this life. too i think that the animals deep down in the ocean are maybe dependent on processes who are running on higher levels of the ocean.. so i'm not sure if the animals deep down in the ocean could live without the ecosystem on top of the ocean etc. - i mean.. the sun is not just give us light.. it too gives us a specific temperature & energy to let biological process run etc.
(no, i didn't mean that early where stuff like supernova gas etc is relevant^^)
