And that's why we have weight classes. Weight and strength are, above all and by far, the determiner in unarmed combat.

They can be a huge determining factor- but not the determining factor by far in my experience. Mass is a powerful tool- but the composition of that weight determines things like speed. In general, someone who has to carry around more weight all day- fat or not- will have an advantage in untrained strength against a smaller untrained opponent of similar activity levels. They’ll have natural advantages in things like grapples and pins, inertia will be on their side and even without muscle they can hit like a freight train if they leverage their mass. They have more padding against internal injuries. Untrained though and at high BF they are often slower, less precise, and often tire faster. The joints, especially knees and ankles will be weak points. #1 advantage is always hunger, who wants or needs the win more. Next up will be experience, skill, and physical factors come last. But I will agree that in untrained fighters and unskilled fighting, the bigger one usually has the advantage.

Hell yeah buddy has to carry all that weight all the time. You know that if most overweight people slimmed down they wouldn’t just look normal they’d look pretty cut.

If they can slim down without losing muscle yes. Catabolism occurs as the weight is lost but not replaced with resistance. Loss of fat requires a caloric deficit, which coupled with the above makes the body shed muscle it feels it doesn’t need anymore. A strict regiment is used by athletes who want to minimize muscle loss while cutting, and one of the major uses of steroids is to keep an anabolic state while cutting weight to achieve a sigh muscle content and low body fat which are impossible or very difficult naturally. Genetics plays a roll, but muscle requires extra calories to build and keep naturally. As a fun fact: people with shorter limbs tend to have stronger grip muscles even if they have weaker grips! The length of tendons and bones acts as a lever, so longer limbed people can exert less force to produce the same end grip strength as someone with shorter limbs who lacks mechanical advantage, so must produce the end grip strength using more muscular force. Wow. The human body

The larger guys mass is a big advantage here- but also look carefully at their technique. The smaller guy only connects solidly with one of the larger guys legs, where as the larger guy connects solidly with both the smaller guy’s legs. In this scenario the larger guy could get away with worse technique because of his size, but had a better kick even if they were the same size. The smaller guy is already at a disadvantage, but makes it worse by not fully leveraging his attack.

Everyone is talking about the differences in strength physically, but they seem to be friends so the skinny guy knew what he was in for. That’s some ironclad willpower. Also, I love that the big guy immediately picked him up, wholesome
