"such kindness" is what I call being a decent human being... What she did is normal, it's the other people around who a. didn't notice, b. didn't know how to react, feraing it would be patronizing, or c. (probably the majority of them) are selfish jerks.

It is not normal because most people don't do it. But I agree with your point it shouldn't be an outstanding thing. It should be common humane/ humane behavior
