While it can be a funny stereotype in a good natured ribbing- the truth is that statistically people in the UK and certain other countries that get made fun of for dentistry have better teeth than many others including the US. Cosmetic dentistry like veneers, whitening, and straightening are less common (although are increasing in commonality with time,) they have a much lower incidence per capita of things like rotten teeth and cavities historically. It has been put forth that it may be a difference in priorities- where Americans are more concerned with having teeth that fit an aesthetic idea of “health” which are straight, white, uniform teeth, where as certain other places like the UK emphasize having strong and healthy teeth over teeth that look cosmetically like the image of health and strength. I’m not saying it negatively about either country, just as a general statement.
