Actually no. They do eat algae, but they also need some actual food too. Most plecos are omnivores like regular catfish

They got fed when I fed my guppies and gold fish. They just also kept my tank clean for me.

Here in the Philippines, we call it 'Janitor fish'. Like you know, while they eat, they also clean that area.
